LOGAN, Utah — Peyton Hall had a four-hit game and Emma Haygood hit her second home run of the season as Utah Valley 9-8 fell in a back-and-forth game to the Utah State Aggies in Logan.
Eight of the nine Wolverines in the starting lineup had at least one hit, and four of those drove in two runs apiece. Haygood, Tatum Hall, Peyton Hall, and Angelique Mann each had a pair of RBIs.
Peyton Hall's four-hit game is the first since Taylor Wooten's four-hit effort against Saint Mary's just over a year ago.
The Wolverines put three runs up in the top of the first courtesy of some two-out thunder. Haygood hit a two-run homer through the wind in center field, then a trio of singles by Megan Gibbs, Mann, and Peyton Hall plated the third run.
The Aggies weren't behind for long, rallying for three runs in the bottom half of the inning, then took their first lead of the afternoon with a run in the third.
Utah Valley put up another two-out rally in the fourth, this time rallying for five runs to take an 8-4 lead. Tatum Hall hit a two-run single up the middle to restore the Wolverine lead, then after a walk loaded the bases, Mann and Peyton Hall each singled to drive in three more runs.
Utah State rallied for four in the sixth and one in the seventh to walk away victors. The Wolverines were a strike away from sending it to extras, but a line drive by the Aggies' Alex Bunton sailed just over the leaping Haygood at first.
The Wolverines will have a quick turnaround and finally open the home season on Friday when the team hosts the Grand Canyon Lopes at Wolverine Softball Field. The Lopes are currently receiving votes in each of the major polls. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. MDT, and all three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
