UVU Faces Grand Canyon in WAC Championship Game Saturday Night on ESPN2

LAS VEGAS – After a dominant semifinal win over No. 5 seed Seattle U, Utah Valley is on the brink of making history with its first-ever appearance in the WAC Tournament championship game. The top-seeded Wolverines will face No. 2 seed Grand Canyon in the final on Saturday night at 8:40 p.m. PT at Orleans Arena. This will be the third time the two teams have met at the WAC Tournament, with GCU holding a 2-0 record in tournament matchups. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and carried on the Wolverine Sports Network and ESPN The Fan (960 AM/92.1 FM in Utah County and 98.3 FM/101.5 HD2 in Salt Lake County).

Wolverines on a Mission

Utah Valley (25-7 overall) enters the championship game riding a 10-game winning streak, including a 68-55 victory over Seattle U in the semifinals. With a 15-1 record in league play, the Wolverines clinched their fourth WAC regular-season title. Their dominant performance in the postseason has them in position to secure their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.

Series History vs. Grand Canyon

Utah Valley and Grand Canyon will meet for the 27th time, with GCU holding a 16-10 all-time advantage in the series. The two teams have split their regular-season matchups this year, with each team winning on its home floor. This will be their first-ever meeting in the WAC Tournament championship game, and the third time UVU and GCU have faced off in the WAC Tournament, with the Lopes holding a 2-0 record in those previous matchups.

Scouting Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon (25-7 overall) enters the championship game with momentum after defeating California Baptist 75-66 in the semifinals. The Lopes are led by JaKobe Coles, who averages 14.6 points per game, and Tyon Grant-Foster, who chips in 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest. Known for their strong defense and dominant rebounding, GCU ranks 15th nationally in blocks per game (5.1) and is one of the top free-throw shooting teams in the country.

Tickets will be available for pickup at the ticket booth outside the main entrance of the Orleans Arena starting at 7:40 p.m. PT on Saturday, March 14 for the men's basketball game. Must show proof of UVU affiliation (UVU ID card, myUVU login, etc.) while supplies last.

Broadcast Information

Tonight's championship game against No. 2 Grand Canyon will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with Dave Feldman and Jared Haase calling the action. The radio broadcast will feature Jim McCulloch and Josh Kallunki on the call, available on ESPN 960 AM/92.1 FM in Utah County and 98.3 FM/101.5 HD2 in Salt Lake County, with Brice Larson hosting pregame and postgame coverage.
