OREM, Utah — Emma Haygood went 2-for-2 as BYU topped Utah Valley 14-0 in the Crosstown Clash in front of a record-setting crowd at Wolverine Softball Field on Tuesday evening.
A program-record 575 spectators filed into Wolverine Softball to watch the crosstown rivals go at it, surpassing the previous record of 512 set back in 2019 when No. 3 Washington came to town.
The Cougars' Kate Dahle was nearly untouchable all night, scattering three hits and striking out five in a five-inning complete game.
BYU scored in all but one inning, including an eight-run outburst in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
The Wolverines put two runners on in the second and fourth innings, but were unable to capitalize on either opportunity. The best of those chances came in the fourth, when Utah Valley put two runners on with nobody out, but ran out of the scoring opportunity when Tatum Hall tried to score on a wild pitch with two outs.
The Wolverines will stay at home this weekend for a three-game series, welcoming the UT Arlington Mavericks for their first-ever trip to Orem. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT.
