Wolverines host Idaho State for final non-conference game

4/14/2025 2:11:00 PM

Utah Valley returns home for the final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday against Big Sky foe Idaho State at 5 p.m. MDT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available at UVUStats.com.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wolverines were swept in a three-game series at Tarleton State this weekend, falling 5-1 in game one and 2-1 in games two and three. The pitching staff held their own against one of the best offenses in the WAC, holding the Texans scoreless in 16 of 19 innings played and allowing just two extra-base hits.

Avery Sapp headlined the pitching effort, coming two outs away from a complete game shutout in game two before surrendering a walk-off two-run homer. Sapp pitched the final 2.2 innings in Saturday's finale and allowed just one baserunner via a walk for a final weekend line score of nine IP, eight strikeouts, and two ER allowed on four hits.

Cam Davis continued her strong pitching in league play with six IP and three ER allowed in game one against the Texans. Outside of the fourth inning where Tarleton tagged Davis and Lily Riley for five runs, Davis scattered two hits over the other five innings pitched. Davis has a team-best 2.20 ERA in WAC play, which ranks third in the league among qualified pitchers.

Peyton Hall had a strong weekend at the plate, going 5-for-9 with a triple and two RBIs. Hall drove in both of the team's runs in game two and three. Catcher's Rachael Brown and Mya Higareda saw the ball well at the plate, going a combined 5-for-9 at the plate as well. Higareda had what looked like the game-tying single in game three, but the throw home narrowly beat Tatum Hall.

SERIES HISTORY VS IDAHO STATE

The Wolverines and Bengals will play for the 54th time on Tuesday, the third-most of any matchup in UVU's D-I era. Idaho State holds a slim one-game edge at 27-26 after taking the first meeting of the season series back on Opening Day, 11-6. Utah Valley has won the last three meetings in Orem, including the last two by a score of 7-6 via walk-off.

SCOUTING THE BENGALS

ISU comes into Tuesday's game riding a seven-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep at Weber State and a dominating 13-2 win at Utah State, to sit in first place in the Big Sky. Ava Brown leads a strong Bengal lineup with 16 HRs and 50 RBIs.

UP NEXT

Utah Valley will have the weekend off before heading to Seattle to face the Seattle U Redhawks on April 25-26, the two teams' final meeting as conference foes. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
