TORRANCE, Calif. — Oakley Olson broke the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase record on Friday as Utah Valley University opened the weekend at the Mt. Sac Relays, the Pacific Coast Invitational at Long Beach State, and the Bryan Clay Invitational. |

Olson finished as the runner-up in Thursday's Women's 3,000 Steeplechase Elite race at the relays, recording a top 20 time in the west and improving on her WAC-best time in the steeplechase following her previous season-best at Stanford. She finished Thursday's race in 10:18.78, shaving nearly four seconds off her previous PR.

Abdulsalam Farah challenged the school record in the men's steeplechase as well, winning the men's elite race in 8:40.47, moving him to third in the record book. Cameron Jacobs had a top-10 PR for the second straight week after finishing fourth on Thursday in 8:56.23 and moved up to No. 6 in the record book. Caleb Ream also had another personal best in the event, improving on his No. 10 mark with a ninth-place finish in 9:03.54.

Also at the Mt. Sac Relays on Thursday, Kelsi Oldroyd took fourth in the women's elite javelin division, hitting 53.59 meters, not far off her program record of 56.66 meters.

At the Pacific Coast Invitational on Friday, three throwers set top 10 personal records, including Grace Degarimore, who continues her ascent up the record book and now sits at No. 2 all-time. She posted a 49.35 mark in the discus on Thursday.

Trevor Hill continued his climb in the men's discus top 10 with a PR of 50.44 meters that puts him at No. 3 in the record book. Luis Diaz Bojorquez' 47.55 personal best on Thursday gives him the 10th spot in the top 10.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Max Clemons improved on the No. 7 time in the men's 800-meter race, finishing in 1:51.58. Clemons finished 10th out of 138 finishers in the event. Isaiah Archer also had a strong race, finishing in 1:52.15 for 22nd place and less than half a second off his PR.

The weekend continues on Friday with more distance runners competing at the Mt. Sac Relays and day one of the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State. The Wolverines are scheduled to have 10 competitors combined in the men's and women's 5k, which will take place late Friday evening at the Mt. Sac Relays.
