PAYSON, Ariz. —
Dane Huddleston fired a 4-under-par 68 to lead the Utah Valley men's golf team during Saturday's second round of the WAC Championship at the Golf Club at Chaparral Pines. Huddleston vaulted 16 spots on the leaderboard and is now tied for second place with a two-round total of 1-under-par 143 (75-68).
Huddleston's 4-under 68 stands as the lowest round of the tournament so far and is the only score recorded in the 60s through two rounds. The sophomore eagled the 341-yard, par-4 third hole by driving the green and sinking the eagle putt. He added five birdies, including four on the back nine, and birdied three of his final five holes to close the round.
The sophomore is just one shot behind Tarleton State's Carson Gallaher (-2) for the individual lead heading into Sunday's final round.
"We had a great day today," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Curran. "Dane played an excellent round of golf and has put himself right in the mix going into the final round. Paxton is also right there with a chance. We've got an opportunity tomorrow if we can go out and post a number."
As a team, Utah Valley moved up two spots after posting a 7-over-par 295 in round two. The Wolverines sit alone in fifth place on the nine-team leaderboard with a two-round score of 23-over-par 599 (304-295).
