LAS VEGAS – Utah Valley wrestling finished up their weekend at the 2025 CLAW U.S. Open this past week. They competed under the Brunson Utah Valley RTC. UVU All-American Terrell Barraclough earned a spot at the Senior World Team Trials with a fifth-place finish at 74kg in Freestyle.
 
Barraclough started 2-0 in the freestyle 74kg division before falling in the quarterfinals to Quincy Monday in a tight-fought 4-3 battle. He quickly bounced back, though, with wins over NCAA qualifier Joey Bianchi (Arkansas-Little Rock) and California Baptist's Drayden Morton, before later getting a matchup against Peyton Hall, where UVU's All-American topped him once again 3-2. He finished his run with a 5-2 record.
 
The finish will qualify Barraclough for USA Wrestling's Senior World Team Trials, which will be held in May in Louisville, Ky.
 
In the U20 Greco-Roman division, both Tanner Frothinger and incoming UVU freshman Geronimo Rivera placed in their respective weight classes. Frothinger finished 4-2 on the day and advanced to the championship semifinals, where he lost to defending national champion Pierson Manville in the semifinals. The Utah Valley redshirt freshman would bounce back in the consolation semifinals before falling in the third-place match. He finished 4-2 in the Freestyle competition but did not place in the field.
 
Rivera did not allow a point in his first three matches before falling to Ned Kauffman in the semifinals of the 63kg class by a 5-4 final score. He finished up his day with a win over William Anderson to get into the third-place match, where he fell to Air Force's Carter Nogle. UVU's talented incoming freshman was one of two who competed in both competitions, going 3-2 in freestyle, but did not place.  
 
The Wolverines had two others close to the program in the Senior Freestyle Division: Yusief Lillie, who finished 1-2 and did not place, and 2023 NCAA qualifier Isaiah Delgado, who went 3-2 with three wins via technical fall.
 
Utah Valley had a good showing in the U20 Freestyle division, with all five participants winning at least two matches. Talen Eck (57kg) and Jake Castagneto (61kg) finished 2-2, with Smokey McClure (65kg) wrapping up the tournament going 3-2.

Utah Valley is next slated to compete at the U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio, coming up on May 30 and Jun. 1 at the Spire Institute.
