Utah Valley heads to Ogden to face Weber State

4/7/2025 3:06:00 PM

Utah Valley travels to Ogden on Tuesday for a midweek nonconference matchup against in-state rival Weber State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. MDT and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Tuesday's game concludes a stretch of nearly a month's worth of games in Utah, which began on March 12 against Utah State.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wolverines took one out of three at home against the Abilene Christian Wildcats, taking the opener 13-3 in five innings before dropping a pair of one-run contests to close out the series, 3-2 and 7-6.

Megan Gibbs took one step closer to history with her record-tying 41st career home run on Saturday against ACU. With her next homer, Gibbs will break the program record originally set by Amanda Robinson (2011-14). In her last four games against Weber State, Gibbs is 6-for-11 with two HRs, 10 RBIs, six runs scored, and three walks. Both of Gibbs' homers were grand slams.

Britney Moreno extended her hitting streak to seven and her reached-base streak to nine with another strong week at the plate. In four games played last week, Moreno went 8-for-14 (.571) with four RBIs, five runs scored, a triple, and two doubles. Her seven-game hitting streak is tied for the team best so far this season.

Avery Sapp flirted with a no-hitter in the series opener against ACU, coming two outs away before giving up her first hit. Sapp also blasted her first collegiate homer in that same game, a solo shot to left.

Since entering the starting lineup against UTA on March 28, Bailey Marvin has a hit in six of seven games, including four extra-base hits. Marvin picked up her first D-I homer and triple against the Mavs, then roped a pair of doubles against ACU.

SERIES HISTORY VS WEBER STATE

The Wildcats took a come-from-behind 5-3 win in Orem back on March 17 to give WSU a slim 20-19 advantage in the all-time series. UVU won in Ogden last season, 9-1 in six innings behind a grand slam from Gibbs and a complete game four-hitter by Payge Armendariz.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

After a lackluster non-conference slate, WSU has bounced back with a 5-1 record through the first two weeks of Big Sky play to tie for first place. The Wildcats come into Tuesday winners of eight of their last nine.

UP NEXT
