Huddleston Named WAC Golfer of the Year

5/6/2025 1:00:00 PM

ARLINGTON — Utah Valley sophomore Dane Huddleston has been named the 2024–25 Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Huddleston also earned First Team All-WAC honors for the second straight season.

Huddleston becomes the first player in program history to be named WAC Golfer of the Year. The honor comes on the heels of a historic season in which he captured a school-record five individual titles and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Reno Regional by winning the WAC individual championship.

"Dane is so deserving of this honor," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. "He's worked incredibly hard and has played at an elite level from start to finish this season. I couldn't be more proud of him and what he's accomplished. This is a big moment, and I know he's hungry for more."

The Orem native claimed victories at the Utah Shootout, Kapolei Invitational, Mesquite Desert Classic, Bandon Dunes Championship, and WAC Championship—becoming UVU's all-time leader in career individual titles with five. His season included a dominant mid-year stretch where he won three consecutive tournaments: the Utah Shootout, Kapolei Invitational, and Mesquite Desert Classic. His five wins tie for the fourth-most in NCAA Division I history for a single season, joining the ranks of Phil Mickelson and Corey Pavin. Only 24 players in NCAA history have ever recorded five or more wins in one season.

Huddleston posted a 70.0 adjusted scoring average over 32 rounds, recorded seven top-3 finishes, and ranked inside the top 60 nationally throughout the season. He reached as high as No. 45 in the Clippd national player rankings on March 26 and is currently ranked No. 59 with a 689-106-19 head-to-head record.

The 2024–25 WAC major awards were voted on by the league's head coaches. Other honors included Grand Canyon's Matt Diehl as Freshman of the Year and Seattle U's Marc Chandonnet as Coach of the Year. Huddleston was joined on the All-WAC First Team by Diehl, Nixon Lauritzen (GCU), Tommaso Zorzetto (GCU), and Kevin Li (Seattle U).

Huddleston will now compete as an individual at the NCAA Reno Regional, May 12–14 at Montreux Golf & Country Club.
