ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley junior shortstop Britney Moreno has been named to the All-WAC first team, the league announced in a release on Tuesday.
"I'm very proud of Brit," said head coach Cody Thomson. "She's put in a lot of work to be the player she is today."
Moreno, a native of La Habra, Calif., had an all-around great season for Utah Valley, contributing in all facets of the game. Moreno was one of three Wolverines to start every game this season, and one of two to do it at the same position. Moreno led the team in hits with 53 to go with 11 walks, two homers, four triples, and six doubles. Moreno also swiped seven bases and finished third among Wolverine starters with a .490 slugging percentage and .400 on-base percentage.
Moreno handled the difficult shortstop position with relative ease, finishing fourth among all WAC primary shortstops in fielding percentage at .939, just .02 behind the leader, CBU's Priscilla Estrada. Moreno played every inning but one defensively for the Wolverines, and all but two at short.
The honor is Moreno's first of her career, and is the team's sixth since Cody Thomson became head coach prior to the 2022 season. Utah Valley has had a first team All-WAC selection in 10 of the 11 full seasons played since joining the WAC in 2014.
Moreno and the Wolverines will open WAC Tournament play on Wednesday against the Abilene Christian Wildcats. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT/1 p.m. PDT, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
