No. 16 Utah Valley travels to La Jolla, Calif., for a road test against the UC San Diego Tritons on Monday night at Triton Soccer Stadium.
Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. MDT, and Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with David Gentile on the call. Live stats will be available at UCSDTritons.com.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley picked up its fifth straight shutout win to start the season, blanking the Sac State Hornets, 3-0 at UCCU Stadium last Thursday. The win ties the program record for the best start to a season at 5-0, and extends the WAC record for most consecutive shutouts to start a season to five games. Utah Valley's five-game winning streak is also the team's longest since 2019, when the Wolverines rattled off five in a row to start WAC play, and is tied for the third-longest active streak in the nation.
Kolby Sessions registered a season-high five saves en route to the clean sheet. Sessions is already tied for the second-most solo shutouts in program history, and needs just one more to tie the team record, set by Mitch Jensen in 2019. Sessions earned his second straight WAC Goalkeeper of the Week honor for his efforts.
Utah Valley had three different players find the back of the net, with Toke Amtrup and Noah Pogue scoring their second goals of the season. Dan McKay scored the third and final goal of the night, becoming the 10th different player to score this season for the Wolverines. That number is already the third most in a single season in program history.
Isaac Emojong extended his goal-contribution streak to five games with an assist on Pogue's goal. With a goal contribution in his next two games, Emojong would match the program record of seven games in a row, held jointly by Omar Yehya (2024) and Blake Frischknecht (2019).
Dating back to last season's 2-0 win over Air Force on Oct. 20, Utah Valley has allowed just one open-play goal over its last 10 matches, and two goals overall. UVU is one of eight teams nationally to have not allowed a goal so far this season, and the only one thus far to have started the season with five straight shutout wins over D-I opponents.
SCOUTING THE TRITONS
UCSD (0-3-2) has gotten off to a slow start offensively through five games with just one goal scored, but the Tritons' defense has kept them in just about every game. UCSD's best result of the season was at then-No. 17 Cal, a 1-1 draw against the state's flagship institution.
HISTORY VS UCSD
The Wolverines and Tritons have met just once before, a 3-1 win for UVU in Orem last season. Alex Fritcher scored a goal, Emojong had an assist, and Gilles Aurelien earned a penalty for the Wolverines in that win.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Utah Valley plays its second of five road contests on Monday, with this trip to SoCal being the second-longest trip of the season by air miles. The longest trip was the Wolverines' jaunt out to Omaha on Aug. 31. UVU still has to travel to Phoenix, Las Vegas, and St. George during the regular season, meaning the Wolverines will take just one more flight to a road game as the team will bus to Las Vegas and St. George.
UP NEXT
Utah Valley will return home for the final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday, Sept. 20, hosting the Santa Clara Broncos out of the WCC. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. MDT, and tickets can be purchased at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix.
