POCATELLO, Idaho and SEATTLE — Sila Kiplagat ran the first true sub-four mile in program history, Morgan Nokes improved on her WAC-record 5k time, and Maddie Passmore set a new school record in the triple jump to lead the Wolverines' efforts at the Husky Classic and Mountain States Games on Saturday.
Kiplagat won the mile against a strong field in Seattle with a time of 3:58.29, the first non-converted sub-four mile in UVU history. Kiplagat joins teammate Alex Hartshorn as the only Wolverines to have eclipsed the four-minute plateau across both indoor and outdoor. Hartshorn and Jayden Fitzgarrald came ever so close to joining Kiplagat under four, with Hartshorn coming in at 4:00.26 and Fitzgarrald at 4:00.51, both new non-converted PRs.
Nokes trimmed three seconds off her conference-record time in the 5k — set just two weeks ago in Boston — with a time of 15:43.86. Fellow Wolverine Caren Kipsirat came across shortly after Nokes with a time of 16:03.46, good for fourth-best all-time.
In Pocatello, Maddie Passmore leapt her way to a school record with a mark of 12.13m in the triple jump. Passmore also inched her way closer to the record in the long jump yesterday with a new indoor PR of 5.89m that's .02m away from matching Kelsi Oldroyd's record set two seasons ago. Jaylee Antonino posted a mark of 10.90m, good for 10th-best all-time.
Payge Walz hurdled her way to No. 2 all-time in the 60mH, posting a new PR of 8.62. Kylie Hadfield debuted in the 400m top 10 with a new best of 57.42, checking in at ninth. Cayden Tupper picked up the last top 10 of the day in the mile, posting a time of 4:08.26 that ranks No. 9 all-time.
Utah Valley's next scheduled event is the WAC Indoor Championships at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., on Feb. 27-28. More details about the conference championships can be found at
