LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines beat Tarleton State, 65-51, on Thursday night in Stephenville to complete the regular-season sweep of the Texans.
Kaylee Headrick recorded her third double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She got it done on both sides of the ball, tying a career high with two blocked shots for UVU. Sophomore guard
Cambree Blackham added 19 points for a season high on 6-of-10 shooting and 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
Utah Valley held the edge on the glass, with
Halle Nelson finishing with eight rebounds and eight points, as the tough UVU defense forced the Texans into more than 20 turnovers.
SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
The Wildcats are 20-8 this season and 11-4 in the WAC. They are currently tied for second place with Southern Utah as both push for seeding in WAC Vegas. ACU was pushed by Utah Tech on Thursday night in a 76-66 victory. Erin Woodson led the way with 23 points and 16 rebounds, with preseason WAC Player of the Year Payton Hull finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
ACU has been very tough to beat at home with a 13-1 record this season in Moody Coliseum. Its only loss was a 74-71 defeat to California Baptist earlier this month. Hull has averaged just under 25 points per game this season against the Wolverines, and UVU will look to slow her down this weekend.
THIS SEASON AGAINST THE CATS
The Wolverines came away with a 69-67 win during New Year's week over ACU in Orem. Mabry finished with a career-high 23 points as she and Barcello teamed up to make all 11 of UVU's 3-pointers in the game. The duo scored 46 of the 69 points needed for UVU to overcome the Wildcats.
The script was flipped earlier this month as Hull and Woodson each scored more than 20 points in a Wildcat victory at home. Twelve offensive rebounds led to second-chance points for ACU to help the Wildcats pull away for the win.
WOLVERINE RECORD WATCH
• Utah Valley needs seven steals to break the single-season team record.
• Blackham needs eight steals to pass Taylor Christensen's single-season record.
• Mabry is chasing the career steals record and needs 17 to pass Asumi Nakayama (223 career steals).
• Barcello needs 14 made 3-pointers to set the single-season 3-point field goals record.
