Utah Valley returns home for a three-game series this weekend, welcoming the UT Arlington Mavericks to Wolverine Softball Field on Friday and Saturday as the Wolverines hit the midway point of the conference season.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. MDT, then wrap up the series with a single game on Saturday at noon. An Easter egg hunt for kids will be held prior to Saturday's game, beginning at 11:30.
All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live stats available at GoUVU.com/stats.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley rolled to a 12-1 run-rule win over Weber State on Tuesday to get back in the win column. Tatum Hall led the charge, hitting a three-run homer and a two-run double, while Bailey Marvin drove in three and Britney Moreno went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
In Tuesday's win, Utah Valley's top four batters in the lineup — Moreno, Amber Rodriguez, Hall, and Marvin — combined to go 12-for-15 with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored.
The Wolverines got a trio of strong outings from their pitchers in Tuesday's win. Ella Miller pitched the first two frames, allowing no runs on two hits before giving way to Hannah Ortega, whose only blemish was a solo homer to Appolonia Maldonado. Ruby Anderson got the final three outs, retiring the side in order for her second straight hitless outing.
QUICK HITTERS
UVU has scored at least four runs in each of its wins so far this season, good for a 20-5 record when reaching that threshold. The Wolverines have played from ahead most of the season, scoring first in 20 games (18-2) and scoring in the first inning 17 times (14-3). UVU didn't score first in any of the 5 games it lost last week.
This weekend's series features the top two scoring offenses in the WAC. UTA ranks first at 6.50 runs/game, with UVU not far behind at 6.32.Â
Moreno enters the weekend on a 13-game reached-base streak, dating back to game two of the Pacific series. Moreno has reached base in all but three games this season (St. Thomas, Utah, and Pacific).
After Tuesday's offensive barrage, Hall (.409) and Moreno (.400) are each hitting over .400 on the season, with Ry Binne not far behind at .394. In the program's full status D-I era (since 2010), the Wolverines have had just one .400 hitter in a non-COVID season — Madison Carr in 2022 (.453) — and three overall.
MORENO CHASING ANOTHER TRIPLES RECORD
On March 21 vs Utah Tech, Moreno made program history by breaking UVU's D-I era triples record with the 12th of her career. Entering this week, Moreno ranks t-5th nationally with 5 triples this season, as well as t-13th among active D-I players for their career. With her next triple, Moreno would match the single-season record of 6, set by Chris Jimenez in 2005, and move into the top 10 all-time in WAC history.
