Utah Valley travels to the Bay Area on Sunday night for the team’s first road game of the regular season, facing off with the Santa Clara Broncos at Stevens Stadium.

Utah Valley moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 1-0 win over the Central Arkansas Bears on Monday in Orem. The Wolverine defense kept its first clean sheet of the season, holding the Bears without a shot on target.
Nil Grau got on the scoresheet for the 2nd game running, scoring the game-winner vs UCA in the 25th minute. Grau had an assist on the Wolverines' first goal of the season vs Pacific.
Jose Luis Martin Montealegre and Noah Pogue each had assists on Grau's game-winner. Pogue lofted a long throw to Montealegre, who nodded it along to Grau for a spinning finish with his back to goal. At least one of UVU's top returning point scorers from a season ago — Grau, Pogue, and Montealegre — have contributed on each of the team's goals this season.
Kolby Sessions made his first start of the season in goal on Monday and registered the 7th clean sheet of his UVU career. Sessions had a single-season record-tying 6 solo shutouts in 2025, and now moves into a tie for 3rd all-time. The career record is 11, held by Mitch Jensen (2016-19). Sessions' 0.67 career GAA currently ranks best all-time by a Wolverine keeper with a minimum of 300 minutes played.
UVU's defensive prowess has been on full display so far this season, allowing just one shot on goal over the first two games. That one SOG was Pacific's goal in the opening game, a shot from just inside the halfway line to catch Jackson Medina off his line.
With Monday's win, Utah Valley improved to 19-1-3 all-time in the month of August over the team's 13 seasons of existence. The lone loss was vs #23 Western Michigan at America First Field in 2023. The draws came at Canisius in 2021, at #5 Oregon State in 2022, and at UC Davis in 2024. Only 7 of those August games have been true road games (4-0-3).
Utah Valley is off to a 2-0 start for the second year in a row and the fifth time ever. The Wolverines are also unbeaten through two games for the third straight season and eighth time in the last nine seasons.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
SCU also started off 2-0 before dropping its first game of the season on Thursday to Cal, 1-0. Sophomore forward Josmar Guandique has been a breakout star thus far for the Broncos, netting two goals off the bench against Cleveland State and Fordham in the team’s first two wins.
HISTORY VS SANTA CLARA
Utah Valley and Santa Clara meet for the 2nd straight year and 4th time overall. The series is currently tied 1-1-1. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Orem last season. Nil Grau scored for UVU in the 7th minute before Will Wiersdorf equalized in the 67th minute. The last time UVU played at Stevens Stadium in 2022, the Wolverines took a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes before SCU rattled off three unanswered goals to win 3-2. Owen Knecht scored his first career goal in that match in the 6th minute.
