OREM—Fresh off a victory over nationally ranked Kansas, Utah Valley University women's soccer heads to Honolulu this week for the OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi, where the Wolverines will face Washington State on Thursday, Sept. 3, and former WAC rival New Mexico State on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Both matches will kick off at 1 p.m. HT/5 p.m. MT. The matches will not be publicly broadcast or streamed.

Utah Valley (1-2-1) will play away from UCCU Stadium for the first time this season after opening the 2026 campaign with four consecutive home matches. The Wolverines capped the homestand with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over No. 17/14 Kansas on Aug. 27.

Kansas took the lead in the 15th minute before Utah Valley turned the match around with two goals in a span of just 1:24 late in the first half. Nixan Jackson worked her way into the box and delivered a left-footed cross that Malia Jessop headed home for the equalizer in the 36th minute. Sadie Beardall then pressured the Kansas back line, blocked a pass and won a race to the loose ball before scoring the eventual game-winner in the 38th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Madeleine Boucher made four saves as the Wolverine defense kept the nationally ranked Jayhawks off the scoreboard over the final 75 minutes.

The victory helped Utah Valley make a three-spot jump to No. 3 in the West Region in the latest IWSOC Coaches Poll in Partnership with United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women, released Sept. 1. UVU is one of five Big West teams in the region's top eight, joining No. 1 California Baptist, No. 2 Long Beach State, No. 5 Cal Poly, No. 6 UC Santa Barbara and No. 8 Sacramento State.

Boucher enters the Hawaii trip with a 1-0-1 record, a 0.81 goals-against average and an .857 save percentage. She has made 12 saves while allowing just two goals in 222:10 of action. Freshman Sam Curtis is tied for the team lead with six shots and leads the Wolverines with two assists, while Kate Shirts also has six shots. Addie Olson, Jessop and Beardall have accounted for UVU's three goals this season.

ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE

Washington State enters the tournament with a 2-2-1 record after defeating UC Irvine, 2-0, on Aug. 27. The Cougars opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Idaho before defeating South Florida, 4-1. WSU then fell 3-0 at South Dakota State and played North Dakota State to a scoreless draw before shutting out UC Irvine. The Cougars enter Thursday having posted consecutive clean sheets.

Washington State has scored six goals while allowing seven through five matches, with the Cougars and their opponents each attempting 59 shots. Five of WSU's six goals have come in the second half.

Freshman Delaney Hawkins and senior Lexi Lee lead Washington State with two goals apiece. Hawkins has a team-best five points on two goals and an assist and leads the Cougars with 10 shots. Lee and Hawkins scored the two goals against UC Irvine, with Lee breaking a scoreless tie in the 84th minute before Hawkins added the insurance goal in the final minute.

Senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Dvorak returned from injury against UC Irvine and made four saves to record her first shutout as a Cougar.

Washington State is in its first season under head coach Chris Citowicki, who took over the program after eight seasons at Montana. Citowicki compiled a 79-39-32 record with the Grizzlies, winning nine Big Sky championships and making four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Thursday will mark just the second all-time meeting between Utah Valley and Washington State. The Cougars won the first matchup, 3-2, in double overtime at Clyde Field on Sept. 14, 2017. UVU held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before WSU scored with 32 seconds remaining in regulation and eventually won in the opening minute of the second overtime.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE

New Mexico State enters the week with a 1-4-0 record and will face host Hawaii on Thursday before taking on Utah Valley on Sunday. The Aggies are coming off a 4-0 loss at USC on Aug. 27. NM State's lone victory this season was a 1-0 road win at Abilene Christian.

The Aggies have scored two goals while allowing 11 through five matches and have been outshot 90-24, including a 43-13 margin in shots on goal. Nine of their 11 goals allowed have come after halftime.

Esme Arenas and freshman Angeline Montoya have scored NM State's two goals. Freshman Zoey Gist leads the Aggies with five shots and four shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Karolanne Lafortune has made 32 saves with a .780 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average in 405 minutes.

NM State is led by ninth-year head coach Rob Baarts, who guided the Aggies to the 2022 WAC Tournament championship and their first NCAA Tournament appearance. The following season, NM State won the Conference USA regular-season title in its first year in the league.

Sunday's contest renews a familiar series between former WAC rivals. Utah Valley owns a 10-1-4 all-time advantage against New Mexico State, with the Aggies' lone victory coming in the most recent meeting — a 1-0 decision in the 2022 WAC Tournament championship match in Seattle. UVU outshot NM State 18-8 in that match but surrendered the game's only goal in the 44th minute. Despite the loss, the Wolverines went on to earn an at-large berth into the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Following the Hawaii trip, Utah Valley will return to Orem to host San Diego State on Saturday, Sept. 12, at UCCU Stadium.
