OREM, Utah — Isabel Anglero and Wyatt Mortenson each claimed the first race wins of their collegiate careers to lead Utah Valley on Friday at the Wolverine Invite at Scera Park in Orem.
Anglero took first with a time of 17:26.71, followed by freshman Lindsey Gerhart in second at 17:30.26. Both runners improved by nearly a minute on their times from a week ago on the same course at the UVU Invite.
Julie Moore took third at 17:42.53, with Elisabeth Ferrell taking fourth at 17:52.89 and Avalon Mecham claiming fifth at 18:04.27. Graysen Lanenga took sixth in her second race back post-mission, running 18:13.85, while Kapri Parry took seventh in her second collegiate race at 19:02.75.
Over on the men's side, Mortenson started out fast and quickly built out a sizable lead by the second lap. Mortenson coasted in with a time of 14:30.14, followed by Josh Howard in second at 14:42.70 and Seth Smith in third at 14:44.37. Bridger Jaggi and Bridger Bowcutt rounded out the top five for the Wolverines, improving on their times from a week ago at 15:09.30 and 15:25.69 respectively.
Utah Valley will make its first of at least two trips to Terre Haute, Ind., next week for the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State at the site of this season's Nationals. The Wolverines are still awaiting their placement for the meet, which will be streamed live on runnerspace.com.
