OREM, Utah — Utah Valley freshman midfielder Luca Wingaa Laursen has been named The Big West Rookie of the Week for the matchweek ending on Sept. 13, the league announced in a press release on Monday.

A native of Kastrup, Denmark, Wingaa Laursen pitched in a crucial 35 minutes off the bench on Friday in Utah Valley's 2-1 upset win at No. 20/12 Marshall. Wingaa Laursen was the driving force behind the Wolverines' game-winning goal seconds after the halftime break. Wingaa Laursen won a duel to maintain possession immediately following the kickoff, then beat a pair of defenders to the end line where his partially-cleared cross was volleyed in off a defender by Landon Christiansen.

Utah Valley will have the week off before heading to St. George, Utah on Monday for the Old Hammer Rivalry against Utah Tech on Monday. Kickoff in the annual derby is scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT, and the game will be streamed live on Mountain West+.
