Ranked BYU Looms as Utah Valley Begins Three-Match Stretch

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley women's volleyball will begin the final week of nonconference play Tuesday, Sept. 15, with an in-state matchup against No. 24 BYU in Provo. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MT. The Wolverines will then travel to Logan to face Utah State on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. MT before returning to Lockhart Arena on Saturday, Sept. 19, for a 3 p.m. MT tilt against Weber State.
 
BROADCAST INFORMATION
All three matches will be available to watch this week. Tuesday night's contest against BYU will stream on ESPN+ with Spencer Linton and Amy Gant on the call. Thursday night's match at Utah State will stream on the Mountain West Network (subscription required), while Saturday's contest against Weber State will air on ESPN+ with Matt Baiamonte and Kayli Doxey on the call from Orem.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wolverines posted a 2-1 record last weekend at the Kansas City Klassic. After dropping their tournament opener to Drake, Utah Valley responded with a pair of five-set victories. The first came against Kansas City on Friday night, when Olivia Gloeckner and Miley Thunstrom each recorded 11 kills. Brielle Rueckert added a career-high 12 total blocks in the win. Rueckert continued her strong play Saturday, tallying a career-high 19 kills in Utah Valley's victory over Radford. Setter Evalyn Medaris recorded 36 assists against Kansas City before delivering 57 assists in Saturday's win.
 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
 BYU enters Tuesday's match with a 5-1 record and is coming off an exciting victory over UCLA at Smith Fieldhouse. The Cougars were picked seventh in the Big 12 preseason poll and are led by preseason all-conference selection Claire Little Chambers, who has recorded 71 kills this season for first-year head coach Rob Nielson. Nielson, a BYU alum, joined the program after serving at Utah State. Setters Alex Bower and Kaylie Kofe share setting duties, with both averaging more than 5.00 assists per set.
 
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
 Utah State enters the week with a 0-7 record and was picked to finish sixth in the Pac-12 preseason poll. First-year head coach Kevin Smith took over the program after helping build a successful TCU team in the Big 12. Former Utah Valley standout Sami Blackett leads the Aggies with 71 kills and averages 3.09 kills per set while hitting .135. She was named to the Pac-12 Impact Player List alongside fellow outside hitter Olivia Ruy, who averages 2.16 kills per set and has totaled 41 kills this season. Middle blocker Ava Napierski leads Utah State with 16 total blocks.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Weber State enters the week at 5-2 overall and was picked fifth in the Big Sky preseason poll. Rose Moore earned preseason all-conference recognition and leads the Wildcats with averages of 3.39 kills and 3.84 points per set. Utah County natives Morgan Pratt and Marley Pratt have also been key contributors. Morgan Pratt averages nearly seven assists per set, while Marley Pratt contributes 3.82 digs per set.
 
UP NEXT
The Wolverines open Big West Conference play next week with a home match against UC Riverside on Thursday, Sept. 24, before hosting California Baptist on Saturday, Sept. 26.
