Career Week Lifts Thunstrom to Big West Offensive Player of the Week

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley outside hitter Miley Thunstrom was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the first time she has earned the honor in the Big West and the second conference weekly award of her collegiate career.

"What a great, well-deserved honor for Miley," said UVU head coach Sam Atoa. "She is such an amazing athlete, teammate, and person. We are so fortunate she is on our team."

Thunstrom had an outstanding week, setting a career high with 17 kills Thursday in a sweep of UC Riverside. She continued her strong play Saturday, helping the Wolverines rally for a reverse-sweep victory over California Baptist. Thunstrom matched her career high with 17 kills and added three service aces against the Lancers.

In her first season at Utah Valley, the Murrieta, California, native leads the Wolverines in kills (120), kills per set (2.61) and points (139), averaging 3.02 points per set. She also ranks second on the team with 10 service aces.

The honor is the second conference weekly award of Thunstrom's collegiate career. She was named West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week in November 2025 while competing for Saint Mary's.

Utah Valley has now earned two Big West weekly honors this season after Lani Toutai was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14.

Thunstrom and the Wolverines opened Big West play with a 2-0 record and return home this week to host UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Oct. 1, and Cal Poly on Saturday, Oct. 3.
