Trevor Stranger enters his second season as an assistant coach and his sixth season overall on the Utah Valley men’s basketball staff. He previously served as Director of Basketball Operations for two seasons (2023–24, 2024–25) and as a graduate assistant for two seasons (2021–22, 2022–23).
Stranger has been part of one of the most successful stretches in program history, helping Utah Valley to three Western Athletic Conference regular-season championships (2022–23, 2024–25, 2025–26), back-to-back 25-win seasons, consecutive outright WAC titles, and back-to-back appearances in both the WAC Tournament championship game and the National Invitation Tournament.
In 2025–26, Stranger helped guide Utah Valley to a 25-9 overall record and a 14-4 mark in WAC play as the Wolverines captured their second straight outright WAC regular-season championship and fifth conference regular-season title in program history. UVU earned the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament, advanced to the championship game for the second consecutive season, and made its second straight appearance in the NIT. The season also marked the first time in program history Utah Valley posted back-to-back 25-win seasons.
Utah Valley ranked among the nation’s best in several statistical categories in 2025–26, finishing sixth nationally in steals per game (9.4), seventh in assists per game (18.5), seventh in turnovers forced per game (15.24), ninth in blocks per game (5.4), 11th in field goal percentage (.501), and 23rd in scoring margin (+11.4). The Wolverines also finished with the highest NCAA NET ranking in the WAC at No. 85 and the league’s top KenPom ranking at No. 91.
The Wolverines rewrote the program record book offensively, setting single-season school records for assists (630), assists per game (18.5), scoring average (80.1 points per game), and field goal percentage (.501). Utah Valley also scored 2,724 points, the second-most in a season in program history.
Stranger also helped oversee a group that produced several record-setting individual performances. Trevan Leonhardt set the program’s single-season assists record with 205 and finished his UVU career as the program’s all-time leader in steals with 160 and second in career assists with 419. Jackson Holcombe set the program’s single-season steals record with 75 while averaging 16.0 points per game. Leonhardt and Holcombe each earned First Team All-WAC, WAC All-Defensive Team, and WAC All-Tournament Team honors.
Utah Valley was also dominant at home in 2025–26, going 15-0 during the regular season and 15-1 overall at the UCCU Center. The Wolverines posted a 27-1 home record over the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons and carried a 27-game home winning streak into the NIT.
In 2024–25, Stranger played a key role in Utah Valley’s 25-9 season, helping guide the Wolverines to a dominant 15-1 mark in WAC play and the outright WAC regular-season championship. UVU earned the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament, advanced to its first-ever championship game, and made an appearance in the NIT. The Wolverines also went 12-0 at home during the regular season for the first time in program history and finished the season ranked No. 19 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
In 2023–24, Stranger helped UVU finish 16-16 overall and 11-9 in WAC play. The Wolverines closed the regular season by winning seven of their final eight games, including a Texas road sweep of Tarleton State and Abilene Christian. Utah Valley also went 4-2 against in-state opponents with wins over Weber State, Southern Utah twice, and Utah Tech.
As a graduate assistant in 2022–23, Stranger contributed to one of the most successful seasons in program history. Utah Valley finished 28-9 overall and 15-3 in WAC play, won the outright WAC regular-season title, and advanced to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament with road wins at New Mexico and Colorado and a home win over Cincinnati. The Wolverines also led the nation in road wins with 12 and earned program-best finishes in both the NCAA NET rankings at No. 58 and KenPom ratings at No. 64, finishing the year ranked No. 10 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
Before joining Utah Valley, Stranger served as the video coordinator at Boise State during the 2020–21 season, helping the Broncos to a 19-9 overall record and a 14-6 mark in Mountain West Conference play. He also spent the 2019–20 season as an assistant coach at the College of Idaho, helping lead the Yotes to a 31-3 record, an undefeated 20-0 conference campaign, and both the CCC regular-season and tournament championships. The team finished ranked No. 1 in the country before the national tournament was cut short due to COVID-19.
A native of Meridian, Idaho, Stranger began his career as a team manager at Boise State, assisting with on-court player development and daily operations. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in business from Boise State. Stranger married Natalie Petersen in August 2026.
