Former Utah Valley University men’s soccer star Alex Neff is returning to the program as the team’s volunteer assistant in 2018. Neff played under head coach Greg Maas from 2014-16.
“As a former player and legendary figure in our program, Coach Neff will be an impactful mentor on-and-off of the field with each of our student-athletes,” Maas said. “His distinguished playing experience, matched with direct knowledge of the conference, he is a perfect complement to the overall depth of our staff. Alex will also oversee the soccer-specific strength & conditioning pathway for our men’s soccer program."
Neff was a three-time All-WAC first-team selection and a two-time United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American during his three years as a center back for Utah Valley.
“I am thrilled and beyond grateful to have the opportunity to join Coach Maas and the UVU men’s soccer staff,” Neff said. “As a former student-athlete, I was fortunate to enjoy a great playing and academic career, and now I have the opportunity to further help this amazing program and our players establish both excellence and success well into the future."
Utah Valley amassed a 38-17-5 record, a .675 winning percentage, over Neff’s career. The team success also included an NCAA Tournament berth in 2015 and a WAC Championship in 2016. While on staff, Neff will also assist with the team’s strength and conditioning.
