Utah Valley University men’s soccer coach Greg Maas has announced the hiring of Jeff Lewis to his coaching staff. The hire comes on the heels of the promotion of Michael Chesler to associate head coach following Matt Ellinger becoming the new head coach at Davis & Elkins College.
Lewis has served as the Director of Coaching for the Utah Storm Soccer Club since 2009 and has been on staff for the Utah Olympic Development Program since 2007. He’s also coached the boy’s and girl’s teams at Maple Mountain High School since 2009.
“I’m very excited to add Coach Jeff Lewis to our staff and welcome him to our Wolverine soccer family,” Maas said. “He has a very successful coaching pedigree and he will be a tremendous asset to our championship culture here at Utah Valley. Working with him personally, I know he will assist our program with integrity, honesty and value-based leadership. Coach Lewis has a strong presence on the training grounds and in matches, and he is a coach that players will respond to and leave it on the pitch for — he won’t miss a beat in his transition to the college game and our pursuit of excellence here at UVU men’s soccer.”
Lewis, who holds a USSF “A” coaching license, has coached his teams to state titles as both the club and high school levels. He also previously coached with Maas when the two were part of a U.S. Youth Soccer ODP National Championship Team in 2014.
“I am extremely excited at the opportunity to join Coach Maas, Coach Chesler, and the highly regarded UVU men's soccer program,” Lewis said. “I am also thrilled to be reunited with several players that I have had the pleasure of coaching during their youth careers. I want to thank all the many coaches and colleagues that have helped me build my coaching career to this point. I especially want to thank my wife, Aimee, and my family for all the help and support they constantly give on this great journey as a coach.”
During his playing career, Lewis attended Hunter High School and was also captain on the Utah ODP Team prior to signing on to play at Westminster College. He and his wife reside in Mapleton, Utah and have four kids: Samantha, James, Karsten and Anna.
