Danielle Cheesman is entering her first season on the Utah Valley coaching staff after spending the last three years playing in Switzerland, Greece, Latvia and Turkey. She served as a player/coach in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Cheesman attended Mountain View High School in Orem where she was one of the top prep players in the country. She was named to Parade Magazine's All-American Team, first team All-American by ESPN, second team All-American by USA Today, the Utah Gatorade Player of the Year and Utah's Ms. Basketball as a senior in 2001 all while leading the Bruins to a no. 1 ranking in the nation and a national title. After her storied high school career, Cheesman played collegiately at BYU, where she earned a degree in Health Science & Public Health. As a player at BYU she helped the team to a 2002 Mountain West Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament run to the Sweet Sixteen. As a senior, Cheesman was named third-team All-Mountain West and to the Academic All-Conference team. She earned honorable mention All-Conference accolades as a junior. Her father, Jay, played at BYU and professionally in the United States and Europe while two sisters, Heather and Ashley, both play collegiately. Cheesman, the second oldest of five siblings, enjoys drawing, oil painting and photography.
