Dan Corotan enters his third season as an assistant coach for Utah Valley volleyball in 2017.

In 2016, Corotan helped UVU tie for second place in WAC play with a 10-4 league record as well as post a runner-up finish at the 2016 WAC Tournament. He also helped the team compile a 16-14 overall record for the Wolverines' 11th time in the past 12 years of recording a .500 or better record.

During his inaugural year as an assistant on Coach Atoa's staff in 2015, he helped guide the Wolverines to a 14-14 overall record in 2015. He also helped the 2015 Wolverines tie for third in the Western Athletic Conference standings with a 9-5 conference clip.

“I’m excited to have Dan as an assistant,” Atoa said. “With him already being on the staff, he has a great familiarity and loyalty to the program. He wants to learn and is excited to be involved in coaching at the collegiate level. I love his willingness to learn the game and to do whatever it takes to help us be successful.”

Corotan, who was previously the team’s statistician for the 2014 season, comes to UVU from Brigham Young where he played on the Cougars’ men’s volleyball team.

During his time as UVU’s statistician, Corotan keyed in statistics during match play as well as helped with video analysis and scouting. He also served as the program’s Data Volley specialist this past season.

Under Corotan’s tutelage as statistician in 2014, the Wolverines finished 14-18 overall and tied for fourth in the WAC with an 8-6 league record. He also helped UVU to a higher attack percentage than the previous season (.215), a better kills per set average (12.32), an improved assists average (11.40) and a higher service aces average (1.34).

Corotan has also coached various boys and girls teams at the club level around Utah County for the past three years.

“I’m excited to be able to learn from Sam and Scott (Lee),” said Corotan. “The experience that they have is immeasurable. I hope to really benefit and learn from them with all the time that they’ve been around here at UVU as well as in the volleyball world. This is a great opportunity for me and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Corotan graduated from BYU in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Korean.

Corotan hails from Los Alamitos, California, where he was a standout volleyball player at Los Alamitos High School. During his playing days, Corotan was named third-team All-Sunset League after leading his team to the Sunset League title. He also played for LBC at the club level, where he helped his squad take second at nationals en route to being named to the all-tournament team.

The Southern California native and his wife, Kanani, reside in Provo.

Corotan and Scott Lee, who is currently in his eighth season of coaching for the Wolverines, now make up Atoa’s volleyball staff at UVU.
