Abel Gomez

Abel Gomez enters his second season as UVU wrestling's strength & conditioning coach in 2020-21.

“We are excited to add Abel Gomez to our staff. As a past wrestler here, he knows what we are aspiring to do in the weight room,” Williams said. “Abel has become an experienced strength and conditioning trainer over the past few years. He not only has the knowledge of what needs our wrestlers have over the course of a year to increase performance, but he also can help our guys keep their bodies more balanced and help prevent injuries. We love Abel’s passion and energy. He is a great addition to our program”.

Gomez wrestled for the Wolverines from 2013-18 where he was a four-year letterwinner for UVU at 184 and 197 pounds. He also earned academic all-conference accolades three times and capped his collegiate career by being tabbed first team academic All-Big 12 during his senior season.

Gomez was a key member of UVU’s student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) during his time at Utah Valley, as he served on the organization as both vice president and president.

Gomez earned a bachelor’s degree from Utah Valley in 2018 with a degree in kinesiology and exercise science. He is also a certified personal trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as a certified strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Gomez hails from Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was a Nevada State Champion wrestler and a member of the National Honor Society for Rancho High School in North Las Vegas.
