Ethen Lofthouse

Ethen Lofthouse enters his tenth season of coaching at Utah Valley in the fall of 2024 after joining Coach Greg Williams' staff prior to the 2014-15 campaign. In 2018, Lofthouse was promoted to associate head coach.

Since joining the staff at Utah Valley, Lofthouse has helped a total of 25 wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Championships. Just this past season, Lofthouse helped UVU crown multiple All-Americans for the first time in program history, as Taylor LaMont placed fifth at the 2021 NCAA Championships at 125 pounds while Demetrius Romero placed sixth at 174 pounds. Lofthouse also helped Romero become the program's inaugural two-time Big 12 Champion in the spring of 2021, as Romero won the second Big 12 Conference title of his career (this time at 174 pounds), and a program-record of six Wolverine grapplers earn podium finishes at the 2021 Big 12 Championships. The UVU associate head coach was also instrumental in helping a program-record of eight Wolverines earn NWCA Scholar All-American honors this past summer, as well as the team for posting the ninth-best team GPA on the NWCA's Division I Top 30 Scholar All-American Teams.

In the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season, Lofthouse helped a trio of Wolverines qualify for nationals and heavyweight Tate Orndorff earn NWCA First Team All-American honors. He also helped five Wolverine grapplers earn podium finishes at the 2020 Big 12 Championships.

Three year's ago (2018-19), Lofthouse helped guide a program-best six qualifiers to nationals as well as the Wolverines hold down a spot in the NWCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for a school record 10 consecutive weeks. He also helped coach the program's inaugural Big 12 Conference champion in 165-pounder Demetrius Romero and guide a UVU record of five podium finishers at the 2019 Big 12 Championships.

In 2017-18, Lofthouse helped lead a then program-best five qualifiers to nationals as well as helped the Wolverines break into the top-25 national rankings for the first time in program history by holding down the 25th spot.

In 2016-17, he helped UVU pick up a pair of wins over ranked opponents -- by knocking off No. 23 North Dakota State in Fargo and No. 23 Oregon State of the Pac-12 at home -- to receive votes for the top 25 poll for the second time in program history.

During Lofthouse's second year of coaching at UVU (2015-16), he helped the Wolverines pick up a 20-19 upset win at No. 18 Oregon State en route to receiving the program's first-ever votes for the top 25 poll. Lofthouse also helped five Wolverine grapplers earn a spot on the podium at the 2016 Big 12 Championship, two qualify for the 2016 NCAA Championships and senior Jade Rauser earn All-American honors for the first time in his career after placing eighth at 133 pounds.

Lofthouse was not only a two-time NCAA All-American wrestler at the University of Iowa, but also a four-time Utah State Champion during his high school days at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah. The Avon, Utah, native went an impressive 192-7 during his high school career, which included an unblemished 47-0 mark during his sophomore campaign.

Lofthouse will bring a wealth of mat experience with him to Orem, as he is also a four-time Junior National All-American and Cadet All-American. The former Hawkeye also won two Greco National Championships as well as one Junior Freestyle National Championship. He is also a two-time Junior FILA Freestyle National Champion as well as a sophomore and junior Folkstyle National Champion.

During the past five years at the University of Iowa (2009-2014), Lofthouse posted a 91-32 career record while competing at 174 and 184 pounds. This past season, the Hawkeye 184-pounder went an impressive 21-4 and 10-1 in duals. He also placed second at the Big Ten Tournament to qualify for his fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.

Lofthouse comes from a wrestling family, as his uncle Luke Lofthouse also wrestled for Iowa (2005-11) and his little brother Raider Lofthouse will begin his freshman season at UVU this winter.
