COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah Valley State "bounced back" after Friday night's loss to University of Northern Colorado to sweep Colorado College in three games 30-27, 30-27, 30-19.
Leading the charge for the Wolverines was
Kassidy Brotherson's team high 14 kills, and .440 hitting percentage in the match. Malia Roberts added 12 kills and
Stephanie McFarland hit an impressive .533 with 9 kills.
Jenny Weed had 9 kills of her own. Brotherson has led UVSC in kills in 13 of the Wolverine's 18 matches this year.
"Overall, I thought the girls did a good job bouncing back after a tough match last night," said head coach
Sam Atoa. "I feel like we've bounced back after tough losses all year long."
The Tigers of Colorado College were no slouches to bounce back on. They fell to an impressive 26-10 record on the season. With the win Utah Valley improves to 7-11.
For the match the Wolverines hit .262 without two of their main contributors,
Deise Borghetti and
Alina Wallauer, who were both sick. The Tigers only hit .148, but did out block the Wolverines 8 to 4.
The Tigers were led by Sarah Morrill who had a match high 15 kills, while hitting .324.
The Wolverines travel home and prepare this week for the Division I Independent Championships next weekend in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Other schools that will be competing in the tournament are Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M; Corpus Christi, and Northern Colorado.
