Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

UVSC loses inaugural NCAA match

BOISE, IDAHO – Service errors and poor passing doomed the Utah Valley State volleyball team in its inaugural NCAA volleyball match as the Wolverines fell 23-30, 30-23, 26-30, 27-30, to the University of Portland on Friday in the Bronco Invitational.

UVSC committed 22 service errors while allowing 12 service aces and the combination was to much to overcome in a tightly contested match.

On a positive note, the Wolverines actually outhit the Pilots .349 to .333 in the match. Krystal Peterson led UVSC with 17 kills and a .600 hitting percentage.

"Overall I was proud of how the girls battled," said UVSC coach Sam Atoa. "But we just dug ourselves holes we couldn't get out of."

Jenny Weed and Alina Wallauer added 14 kills apiece to Peterson's total to give UVSC a nice three-pronged attack. But, in the closely contested match, the 33 free points the Wolverines handed the Pilots was to much for the threesome to offset.

UVSC concludes play in the Bronco Invitational Saturday with two games. The Wolverines play host school Boise State at 1:00 p.m. and Bowling Green at 5:00 p.m.
