DILLON, Montana - Jenny Weed's 11 kills led Utah Valley State to a straight-set win, 30-28, 30-21, 30-28, over Montana-Western on the Bulldog's home floor.
Weed's match-high kill effort was marked the second time this year she has led UVSC (3-7) in kills. She hit .333 for the match.
Kassidy Brotherson and
Stephanie McFarland also contributed nine kills each. McFarland hit a match-high .400.
Despite the straight-set win, UVSC coach
Sam Atoa wasn't entirely pleased.
"We are a much better team than they are and we hoped to come out and play smooth. That didn't happen. We struggled in the first game and were a little lucky to win it. But the girls settled down and played well down the stretch."
UVSC played like Atoa expected in the second game and dominated hitting .516 as a team.
Atoa said the final game was similar to the first with UVSC struggling early only to relax and take control down the wire. The Wolverines out-hit the Bulldogs .264 to .178 for the match.
UVSC plays next when it hosts the University of Northern Colorado on October 3 at 7 p.m.
