RENO, Nevada -Â Utah Valley State took Nevada to four games, but came out on the losing end, 30-21, 30-25, 30-32, 30-23, at Virginia Street Gym on Thursday night.
Several Wolverine players contributed and head coach Sam Atoa was positive with the way his team played against a "very good team."
"I was pleased with our effort tonight,"Â said Atoa. "This is a team [Nevada] that took Stanford to five games, and number sixth ranked Hawaii to five games. We had no right to be competitive, but we were able to put some nice things together."
Deise Borghetti led the way with a team-high 17 kills, to go along with her 11 digs, tallying her fifth double-double of the year. Alina Wallauer added 10 kills, and seven digs. Atoa was also impressed with Krystal Taylor and Lacee Koelliker.
Taylor hammered out nine kills, and had one block solo and two block assists. Koelliker was her usual steady-self recording her seventh double-double of the season with 42 assists, and a match and season-high 25 digs.
"Krystal [Taylor] really helped us and Lacee [Koelliker] dug everything, she was an animal out on the court."
Atoa also praised Borghetti's performance. She is coming off an injury and her coach was please with her competitiveness.
"Deise [Borghetti] is still not 100%, but she played a very good match."
The Wolverine offense was slowed down by a strong UNR front line. The Wolf Pack held UVSC to an overall hitting percentage of .087, and out team blocked the Wolverines 14 to 6.5.
UVSC falls to 6-8 on the year, and UNR improves to 9-6. The Wolverines will be on the road again next weekend as they travel to Texas. UVSC will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (MST), and Texas-Pan American on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. (MST).
