OREM, Utah – Coming off a five-game loss Friday night, Utah Valley State made it another long night but came out on the winning end against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday beating the Islanders in five, 30-26, 27-30, 30-19, 29-31, 15-13.
Brooke Adams tied a career-high with 18 kills, and
Camie Manwill finished with a team-high 19 kills. Manwill also had 14 digs to record her fifth double-double of the year and her second in as many nights.
Head coach
Sam Atoa, made some adjustments and moved freshman
Kari Heers and
Bethany Carron to the front row in game three, which ended up being a great move as the Wolverines controlled the set 30-19.
"Kari and Bethany came in and did a great job for us," said Atoa. "We made some changes and it was fun to see the girls motivate themselves and play the way they needed to play."
Carron finished with four kills and Heers had two, but they were timely ones in pivotal game three. Heers also finished with a career-high 17 digs.
Jessica Endres finished with 14 kills and
Anne Olsen notched 12 to round out the Wolverine offensive attack.
Lacee Koelliker, who was responsible for running the offensive output, finished with 61 assists and 18 digs, which gave her two double-double in two days, and a team-high nine double-doubles on the season.
Maegan Hoyt recovered from a slow night on Friday to put up 25 digs against the Islanders.
Overall, their were four Wolverines with double figure kills and four in double digit digs. With the win, the Wolverines even their record at 11-11, and TAMUCC falls to 9-11.
The Wolverines travel back home and prepare to host fellow Division I Independent teams North and South Dakota State on November 3rd and 4th. UV plays NDSU on Thursday, November 3rd and SDSU on Friday, November 4th. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 pm (MST).
