Wolverines Pick Up First Two Wins of the Season

Nampa, Idaho - The Utah Valley State softball team picked up its first two wins of the season by beating Northwest Nazarene 10-2 and 8-0. The Wolverines were clicking on all cylinders as nearly every player in each game came up with a hit.

In the 10-2 win, Rachel Hartgrove, Crystal Young, Shea Seever and Emily Cardenas each had two hits. Hartgrove had a triple and a double while Young had two doubles. Seven different Wolverines had RBIs.

Utah Valley finished with 12 hits in the game, six being extra base hits.

In the game 2, Amanda Kendzior went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs to lead the Wolverines to the 8-0 win. Along with Kendzior, five players had RBIs in the win.

-??We got something from every spot,-?? Utah Valley State coach Todd Fairbourne said.

Chelsey Mikalauski pitched a complete game in game 1, and threw into the third inning of game 2. Jackie Roberts closed out game 2 by pitching four and 2/3 innings and striking out six batters.

-??She pitched her best game of the year,-?? Fairbourne said.

Overall, Fairbourne was pleased with how his team played in the two games.
