JACKSONVILLE, Alabama - Utah Valley State freshman Rebekah Fales scored a career high 19 points Monday night in Jacksonville, Alabama but it wasn’t enough as Jacksonville State beat the Wolverines 78-67.
Fales was 6-9 from the field for the game, including 4-4 from the three-point line in 19 minutes of play. Miriam Palkki was the only other Wolverine in double figures with 15. Katie Wilson led the team with six rebounds.
The Wolverines stayed in the game until late, matching every run the Gamecocks had but never quite got over the hump. With the game tied at six, Jacksonville State had a quick 5-0 run and never looked back.
The lead bounced between three points and seven points throughout the first half until Kaydee Allred cut it to one with 6:23 to go, but that’s as close as Utah Valley would come.
The Wolverines shot 46% from the floor for the game but couldn’t match the Gamecocks 52% shooting. Utah Valley shot 56% (9-16) from the three-point line, tying a season high.
The rebounding was nearly even, with Jacksonville State winning the battle 26-25.
The Gamecocks had five players in double figures led by Cobie Carlisle with 16.
The loss puts Utah Valley at 2-18 on the year with a match up at San Diego State coming Thursday night at 6:00pm MST.
