Orem, Utah - The Utah Valley State softball team defeated Albertson College in a double header 7-2 and 11-3 on Saturday. Since starting the season 0-10, the Wolverines (7-11) have now won seven of its last eight games.

Utah Valley-??s bats were explosive all afternoon. In the two games the Wolverines finished with 25 hits.

Rachel Hartgrove led the attack with six hits, four RBI-??s and scored five runs in the two games. Crystal Young added five hits to the defeat of the Coyotes.
Fairbourne added that he was extremely pleased with how Kelli Wilkins performed in the two wins as well as the split over Utah State on Friday. Against Albertson, Wilkins had three hits while scoring four runs.
Jackie Roberts and Ericka Jones were solid on the mound for the Wolverines. In game 1, Roberts struck out nine Albertson batters while allowing five hits in a complete game. Jones went the distance in game 2 while scattering seven hits in the five innings game.
In game 1, the Wolverines jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. Roberts hit a three-run homerun in the second inning to spark attack.
In game 2, Utah Valley jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the third inning. After Albertson scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, the Wolverines responded with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
"One thing I am very pleased with was every single inning that Albertson-??s scored we answered,-?? Fairbourne said.
Hartgrove and Amanda Kendzior each drilled a homerun in the inning to extend the lead to 10-3.
In the bottom of the fifth with two outs Wilkins smacked a triple and one batter later Chris Jimenez singled Wilkins home to give the Wolverines the win.
The Wolverines travel to Northern California for games at St. Mary-??s on Tuesday and Sacramento State on Wednesday.
