GREELEY, Colorado - The Utah Valley State softball team beat Northern Colorado 10-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. In the five inning win Janae Wright had a solid afternoon at the plate going two for three with 3 RBIs. Her two hits were a double and a triple.
Five of Utah Valley State-??s nine batters had two or more hits in the game. Kelli Wilkins led the attack by going four for four at the plate. Chris Jimenez, Shea Seever and Jackie Roberts all had two hits in the game.
Roberts also had a nice performance on the mound. In the win she allowed only one hit and walked two batters while striking out two batters.
-??I was happy that we finished the first game,-?? Utah Valley State coach Todd Fairbourne said. -??We did what we were supposed to do.
In the second game the Wolverines lost 5-1 despite having seven hits. The only one run scored was an inside the park homerun by Wilkins. Wilkins finished the two games seven for eight at the plate. Jimenez was also two for three in the game with two sacrifices.
The two teams meet again on Sunday in a doubleheader to conclude the four-game series.
