Wolverines Swept by Northern Colorado

OREM, Utah - The second day of the four-game series belonged to Northern Colorado as they beat Utah Valley State 11-6 and 7-5 on Saturday. The Wolverines had a chance to win the second game as they loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. But Rachel Hartgrove lined out to Northern Colorado pitcher Monique Obra to end the game.

"I couldn't have asked for a better situation at the end to have a chance," Utah Valley State coach Todd Fairbourne said. "Two-thirds of the time she'll come through."

The Wolverines had 18 hits in the two games. Amanda Kendzior once against led the charge by going five for seven with two homeruns. In six games this week she hit an astounding .650 from the plate.

Kelli Wilkins also had a nice afternoon from the plate going four for five.

In the first game Utah Valley jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the third inning. Hartgrove started the game off with a two-run homerun over the left field fence. In the second inning, Wilkins hit a 2-RBI double to left field to up the lead to 4-0.

The Wolverines final two runs of game one came when Kendzior hit a two-run homerun to left field after Hartgrove started the inning off with a single.

But following the third inning Northern Colorado platted five runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth to earn the win.

In game two, Utah Valley fell behind 3-0 after the second inning. UNC added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead 5-0. In the bottom half of the inning the Wolverines scored two runs to cut the lead to 5-2, following another two-run homer by Kendzior.

Utah Valley State added two runs in the fifth and one the sixth before loading the bases in the seventh inning. The Wolverines are back in action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against BYU.
