What's on Tap:
Utah Valley State hosts in-state rival Utah in Orem for the first time on Tuesday, September 20th. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the Activity Center. Utah leads the overall series with the Wolverines 2-0.

Wolverine Update:
Utah Valley State (4-5) hosted the LaQuinta Utah Valley State Invitational this past weekend. TheWolverines lost a tough five-game match to Idaho State, before securing second place in the tournament with wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3 games) and UC Davis (4 games). Lacee Koelliker and Anne Olsen were named to the All-Tournament team.

Koelliker led all Invitational setters in assist per game average (13.0) and recorded 156 assists in three matches, averaging an impressive 52 assists per match. She helped lead the Wolverines to an overall .233 hitting percentage on the weekend. Against ISU, Koelliker set a school record with 65 assists, helping Utah Valley State set a school record with 80 kills in the match. She was two assists short of her previous school record of 59 in the UC Davis match, and also put up 19 digs. She recorded double-doubles in two of three matches, making it 6 out of 9 matches this year with a double-double.

Olsen notched 51 kills in three matches, averaging 17 kills per match and 4.25 kills per game, while hitting .327. Against ISU, Olsen finished with a career-high 24 kills, and her .314 hitting clip was second best in school history in a match (50+ attempts). She also tallied a career best 19 digs in the match. Olsen tied a school record with 6 service aces against UC Davis.

Jessica Endres was just as impressive on the offensive end in the Invitational. She finished the tournament with 53 kills, averaging 4.42 kills per game, and hit a team best .345. Endres recorded a career-high 21 kills, and her .378 hitting percentage was a Wolverine school record in a match (40-49 attempts).

Scouting the Opposition:
Utah: The Utes come into Tuesday's match with a 7-3 overall record on the season. Utah has played three ranked teams already on the season. The Utes lost to #21 Missouri, and #9 Tennessee, both in three games, but their last match was a five-game victory over #17 Santa Clara. The other loss came at the hands of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Utah is led offensively by two-time All Mountain West Conference honoree Shelly Sommerfeldt. She leads the team in kills 121, and kills per game average (3.46). Shannon Krug is the player feeding Sommerfeldt the ball, she averages 10.97 assists per game.

Last Time Out:
UC Davis (9-17-05): Utah Valley State finished off UC Davis 3-1 to secure second place in the LaQuinta Utah Valley State Invitational. Utah Valley controlled most of the match out-playing the Aggies in most every catergory. The Wolverines hit .350, .314, .217, and .256, respectively in the four games. Three Wolverines notched double-digit kills and Koelliker continued to be outstanding distributing the ball. Endres finished with a career and match-high 19 kills, and Manwill also tallied a career best with 18. Olsen finished with 16 in the match, and tied a school record with six service aces in the match. Brooke Adams was another offensive threat who recorded a Utah Valley career best eight kills. Koelliker had another double-double making it six out of the nine matches this season. She had an impressive 57 assists, and 19 digs, only one dig under the match-high recorded by teammate Maegan Hoyt (20).

TAMUCC (9-17-05): In the first match of the day for Utah Valley State Jessica Endres notched 13 kills in a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Endres tallied 5 kills in each of the first two games to lead the Wolverines to the sweep. She hit an impressive .364 on the afternoon. Koelliker's streak of five straight matches with a double-double was snapped due to the lack of games played. She still finished wth 34 assists and 4 kills with no attack errors. Olsen was her next best option when Endres wasn't available. Olsen finished with 11 kills, and hit .381. Hoyt put up 12 digs on the defensive side of the net. As a team the Wolverines hit .289, a season best, and out-blocked the Islanders 9-2.

ISU (9-16-05): Utah Valley State had five players put up career-high numbers against Idaho State, but couldn't hold on in five games, 30-24, 22-30, 30-28, 26-30, 12-15, on the first day of the LaQuinta Utah Valley State Invitational. The Wolverines as a team set a school record with 80 kills in the match, and tied a school record with 103 total digs. Lacee Koelliker put up a career-high and school record 65 assists. She distributed the ball mostly to Anne Olsen and Jessica Endres who also tallied career-highs in kills. Olsen finished with 24, and her .314 hitting clip was second best in school history (50+ attempts) in a match. Endres recorded 21 kills, and her .378 hitting percentage was a Wolverine school record (40-49 attempts) in a match. Olsen also finished with a career best 19 digs. Freshman Bethany Carron set milestone numbers with 16 digs. Redshirt freshman Carlyn Cadmus was the other Wolverine who had a career-high in kills with eight, and hit a career best .294. Other key Wolverine contributors, were Maegan Hoyt, whose 26 digs was a season-high and third best in the Utah Valley State record book for a single match (she now holds the three best single match dig totals). Laycock had a solid eight kills.The difference was the blocking, as ISU out-blocked the Wolverines 11 to 2.

Up Next:
The Wolverines will get the rest of the week off to prepare for a re-match against in-state rival Weber State on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:00 pm in the Activity Center. The Wildcats defeated Utah Valley in three games at the Weber State Classic on September 10th.

New Career Highs ...
~ Transfer Brooke Adams set a career-high with 8 kills against UC Davis (9-17-05). She also hit a career best .500 in the match.

~ Anne Olsen tied a school record with 6 services aces against UC Davis (9-17-05). Lacee Koelliker set the record earlier in the season against Northwestern State (9-9-05).

~ Freshman outside hitter Camie Manwill recorded a career-high 18 kills against UC Davis (9-17-05).

~ Lacee Koelliker set a school record with 65 assists against Idaho State (9-16-05). She also helped the Wolverines set a school team record with 80 kills in the match. The Wolverines also notched a team school record with 103 digs in the ISU match.

~ Anne Olsen recorded a career-high 24 kills against Idaho State
(9-16-05). She also hit a career best .381 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi the next day (9-17-05). Her 19 digs against Idaho State (9-16-05) was also a career milestone.

~ Jessica Endres recorded a career-high 21 kills against Idaho State (9-16-05), and her .378 hitting percentage was a Wolverine school record in a match (40-49 attempts).

~ Redshirt freshman Carlyn Cadmus set a career-highs with 8 kills, and a .294 hitting percentage against Idaho State (9-16-05).

~ Freshman Bethany Carron recorded a career-high 16 digs against Idaho State (9-16-05).

~ The Wolverines recorded a school record 14 service aces against Northwestern State (9-9-05).

~ Maegan Hoyt notched 29 digs against Montana State (9-3-05), just four shy of her own single match school record of 33.

Did You Know ...
~ Head Coach Sam Atoa paid his way through school by entertaining and dancing at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii.

~ Junior Lacee Koelliker was second among all Division I Independent setters last season with an 11.22 assist per game average. She was also named 2nd Team Division I All-Independent.

~ Freshman Kari Heers' sister Erin was a defensive specialist for the Wolverines in 1996. Erin played with first year Wolverine Assistant Coach Kelsi Carlston.

Hoyt and Koelliker Receive Weekly Honors:
Utah Valley State volleyball players Maegan Hoyt and Lacee Koelliker were honored for their performances against Kansas and Montana State the week of August 29th - September 4th.

Hoyt was named Division I Independent Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, and Koelliker was named Division I Independent Volleyball Setter of the Week.

Hoyt started where she left off last season solidifying the back row for Utah Valley State. In two matches against Big 12 power Kansas and Big Sky foe Montana State she notched 42 total digs, averaging an impressive 5.25 digs per game, and 21 digs per match. Against KU she had 13 digs, and against MSU she finished with 29 digs. Hoyt's dig total of 29 in the MSU match ranks second in Utah Valley State history for a single match. She was just four digs shy of her own record of 33 set against Northern Colorado last season.

Koelliker continued to be solid for the Wolverines after having been a big part of the offense for the past two seasons. Against Big 12 power Kansas and Big Sky foe Montana State Koelliker notched 79 total assists, averaging 9.88 digs per game and just under 40 assists per match. She also kept the defense off balance with 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
