What's on Tap:
Utah Valley State hosts in-state rival Utah in Orem for the first time on Tuesday, September 27th. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the Activity Center. Weber State leads the overall series with the Wolverines 3-0, and is 1-0 against UV this season.

Wolverine Update:
Utah Valley State (4-6) welcomed in-state rival Utah to the Activity Center for the first time, on September 20th. The Utes weren't the best host team, as they took the match in four games, 24-30, 19-30, 30-25, 18-30.

Jessica Endres, Anne Olsen, and Camie Manwill all finished in double figure kills, but it wasn't enough to overtake the 2004 Mountain West Conference Defending Champion Utes.

Endres recorded 12 kills, and Olsen and Manwill ended the night with 11 apiece. Lacee Koelliker got a slow start, but came on in the end and finished with 40 assists.

Endres leads the Wolverines in kills (128) and kills per game average (3.20), and Olsen is close behind in both categories with 127 kills averaging 3.17 per game.

Koelliker seems to find the right people at the right time averaging 11.30 assists per game, and Maegan Hoyt has been solid on the defensive end, averaging an impressive 4.58 digs per game.

The Wolverine Word ...
Senior Libero Maegan Hoyt will give Wolverine fans the insight into the life of a college athlete. "The Wolverine Word" will be a weekly journal entry from a Utah Valley State Athlete throughout the rest of the 2005-06 athletic season. You can access the journal by clicking HERE or by going to www.wolverinegreen.com.

Scouting the Opposition:
Weber State: The Wildcats moved to 7-7 overall on the season with two Big Sky Conference wins at the end of last week. Weber defeated Eastern Washington in a tough five game match in its conference home opener, and two days later gave Portland State a loss, also in five games. Leah Burmeister continues to be solid on the offensive end for the Wildcats averaging 3.55 kills per game. She has 195 kills on the season. Freshman Chelsea Bair has started her career at WSU with a bang, notching 172 kills so far, averaging 3.13 per game. Setter Shelby Walford averages a solid 11.07 assists per game and Libero Keelee Kap, a Dixie State transfer who played JC volleyball with Wolverine Brooke Adams, averages 3.19 digs per game on the back row.

Last Time Out:
Utah (9-20-05): Utah Valley State welcomed Utah to Orem for the first time, but the Utes weren't the best guests, taking the volleyball match in four games, 24-30, 19-30, 30-25, in front of 401 fans at the Activity Center. Utah out-hit UV .205 to .065 and out-blocked the Wolverines 15.5 to 9. The Wolverines had 50 kills to Utah's 56, but it was the 40 Wolverine hitting errors (to Utah's 25) that hurt the home team. The nine Wolverine team blocks matched a season-high, and was a bright spot during the match according to head coach Sam Atoa. The Utah match marked the third straight match that the Wolverines have recorded nine team blocks, and they have won two out of their last three. The Wolverines used four kills each from Endres and fellow middle blocker Brooke Adams to take game three, 30-25, off 14 Koelliker assists. But just when UV started to get some momentum, Utah knocked the Wolverines back with a 4-0 run to start the fourth set, and later went on a 9-0 spurt to run away in the final game. Utah finished the night with two players in double digit kills. Two time All-Mountain West Conference outside, and Orem native, Shelly Sommerfeldt had a match-high 13, and Airial Salvo finished with 10.

Up Next:
The Wolverines travel to the Dakotas over the weekend to take on fellow Independent schools, North and South Dakota State. UV will take on NDSU on Friday, September 30th at 6:00 pm (MST) and turn around the next night to play NDSU at 6:00 pm (MST).
