Wolverines Sweep Bison

FARGO, North Dakota – Jessica Endres hit a school record .773 totaling 18 kills, and Anne Olsen chipped in 14 kills to power Utah Valley State past North Dakota State in volleyball action Friday night in three games, 30-23, 30-25, 30-25.

The Wolverines (6-6) came back from being 10 points down in the third game to secure the victory and get back to .500 on the season. NDSU took a 6-0 lead, and extended that lead to 16-6 in the third set forcing Wolverine head coach Sam Atoa to call a timeout.

Utah Valley then went on a 20-9 run to tie the game at 25-25 and eventually overtake the Bison 30-25 to close out the match. Endres held serve for eight straight points and Lacee Koelliker served six points in a row during the comeback.

"The girls did a nice job just sticking together and coming back in that third game," said Atoa. "This is the most fired up we have played this year, and to do it in front of their home crowd was good to see."

The Bison "home crowd" equaled 641, and was a hostile group according to Atoa. The Wolverines overpowered the boisterous fans by out-hitting NDSU .316 to .177. The Utah Valley hitting clip was the best match percentage of the season.

"It was a great effort on the girl's part," added Atoa.

Endres did most of the damage going 18 for 22 with only one error. Olsen hit a solid .250 and Camie Manwill tallied 9 kills and hit .286. Atoa was also impressed with the play of Brooke Adams and Carlyn Cadmus. Adams had seven kills, and Cadmus only had one tally, but it was a big one.

"Carlyn's kill came at a very crucial time in the third game when we were tied at 25," said Atoa. "She powered the ball through the block to give us a big boost."

Koelliker played her normal steady match, finishing with 47 assists, and Maegan Hoyt recorded 14 digs, making it 11 out of 12 matches this season with double-digit dig numbers.

The Wolverines were solid all around, even though they weren't at 100 percent. Endres was feeling a little under the weather, and Olsen sprained her ankle in the first game.

"I was proud of how our girls competed," said Atoa.

The Wolverines will be back in action on Saturday night to take on the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State at 6:00 pm (MST) in Brookings, South Dakota. A live audio webcast of the match can be followed by going to: www.wnax.com/ListenLive.cfm
