San Diego, CA - The Utah Valley State softball split a doubleheader against the University of San Diego on Friday. The Wolverines beat San Diego 3-1 in the second game and lost 2-0 in the first game.
In the 3-1 win, Utah Valley had eight hits, Chris Jimenez and Cari Hamilton each had two while Rachel Hartgrove, Heidi Boyer, Emily Zupan and Jackie Roberts each had one hit.
Boyer also had two RBI and pitched a four-hit complete game.
-??Boyer carried us in that second game,-?? Utah Valley State coach Todd Fairbourne said. -??She is a gamer. She wanted to win bad. She decided we were going to do it. We won that game because of Heidi Boyer.-??
The Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Jimenez led off the game with a single and Hamilton followed with an infield single to third base. Hartgrove then moved Jimenez to third and Hamilton to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Boyer then hit a two RBI single to center field to put the Wolverines on the scoreboard.
San Diego added a run in the third inning. Utah Valley scored its third run in the fifth inning. Jimenez singled to center field and later scored on a Zupan single.
In the 2-0 loss, San Diego-??s two runs were both unearned. The Toreos-?? scored their first run in the first inning and added another in the fifth.
Along with committing the two errors, the Wolverines offense was also only able to muster three hits. Jackie Roberts pitched six innings and scattered seven hits.

Utah Valley State plays a double header at Long Beach State on Sunday.
