Salt Lake City, UT - The Utah Valley State softball team lost to Harvard 4-1 and Portland State 13-0 in five innings on Saturday in the second day of the Utah Softball Tournament. The Wolverines were held to four hits on the day, three coming in the first game against Harvard.
In the first game, Kaeleigh Forsyth gave Utah Valley a 1-0 lead in the second inning after she hit a bloop single over the top of the Harvard first and second basemen. The run scored Heidi Boyer, who reached base on a walk, from second.
The Wolverine lead lasted until the fourth inning when Harvard scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Harvard scored all three runs on three hits and with one out had five straight batters reach base. Harvard added its final run in the fifth inning.
Forsyth, Boyer and Chris Jimenez had the three hits for the Wolverines.
Against Portland State, the Wolverines gave up a run in the first two innings to fall behind 2-0. In the third inning Portland State broke the game open by scoring eight runs on five hits and two Wolverine errors.
Portland State had a perfect game going until the final inning when Jessi Even was brought into pitch. Boyer broke up the perfect game with a walk and with one out Jackie Roberts made sure Portland State didn-??t finish with a no-hitter by singling to left-center.
The Wolverines play Portland State again on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the final day of the Utah Softball tournament. Utah Valley then hosts Harvard in doubleheader at 1 p.m.
