Reno, NV - The Utah Valley State softball team lost 6-1 to North Dakota State and 14-2 to Nevada in the first day of the Wolf Pack Invitational on Friday.
Cari Hamilton led the Wolverine offense by going five for seven from the plate in the two games.
Against North Dakota State, the Wolverines fell behind 3-0 before they were able to muster a run in the fourth inning. With one out, Heidi Boyer doubled to center field. Kaylie Neal then sacrificed Boyer to third and she later scored after Laurin Eppich reached base on a North Dakota State error.
After Utah Valley cut the score to 3-1, the Bison scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 6-1 lead.
Hamilton went three for four in the game while Rachel Hartgrove was two for three at the plate. Boyer and Lindsey Phelps had the other two hits.
In the loss to Nevada, the Wolf Pack scored four runs in the first and second innings to jump out to an 8-2 lead.
Utah Valley scored its two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Jimenez opened with a single to right field and Hamilton followed with a single to left.
Hartgrove then hit into a fielder-??s choice but Nevada pitcher Candice Rainwater-??s throw to third was off target, allowing Jimenez to score the first run. Hamilton later scored on an RBI from Neal.
Hamilton and Jimenez combined to have all four hits for Utah Valley in the game.
Utah Valley is scheduled to play Saint Mary-??s at 10:30 a.m. (MST) and Portland State at 1:00 p.m. (MST) on Saturday.
