Wolverines Sweep Eastern Oregon

Caldwell, ID- The Utah Valley State softball team beat Eastern Oregon 1-0 in nine innings and 14-3 in six innings on Saturday behind strong pitching performances from Jackie Roberts and Heidi Boyer. The two wins up Utah Valley-??s record to 12-26.

In the first game, Roberts pitched all nine innings and struck out nine batters while allowing only six hits. She also went three for five with a double.

-??Jackie was the only reason we had a chance to win the game,-?? Utah Valley State coach Todd Fairbourne said.

After eight innings of scoreless ball, Rachel Hartgrove started the inning off with a double and Boyer then followed with a double of her own that scored Hartgrove to give the Wolverines the win.

Hartgrove was three for five with three doubles.

In the second game Boyer allowed five hits in the six inning win. Utah Valley had 19 hits in the game, 15 coming from Boyer (3 for 4), Roberts (2 for 4), Sara Roskelley (4 for 4), Natalie Paulsen (2 for 2) and Kaeleigh Forsyth (3 for 3). Boyer and Roberts both hit homeruns.

After a scoreless first inning Utah Valley had three runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and fifth and four runs in the sixth.

Eastern Oregon scored two runs in the second and one in the fifth.
