Wolverines Play BYU Tough

Box Score : Season Stats

Provo, UT- The Utah Valley State softball team battled BYU tough but still lost to the Cougars 4-0 on Thursday evening at Miller Park. BYU is currently in second place in the Mountain West Conference.

The game remained scoreless through four innings but BYU scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and they took advantage of one Wolverine error during that stretch to earn the win.

Both teams finished the game with five hits. Utah Valley had two errors to the Cougars one. Cari Hamilton, Rachel Hartgrove, Sara Roskelley, Emily Zupan and Kaeleigh Forsyth all came up with the Wolverine hits.

Wolverine pitcher Jackie Roberts pitched four innings of no-hit ball before the Cougars scored two runs on one hit and a UV error in the fifth inning.

-??I was really happy with Roberts effort on the mound,-?? Utah Valley State coach Jackie Roberts said. -??She pitched a great game.-??

The difference in the game was BYU-??s ability to drive in runs in scoring position. Utah Valley-??s best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning when they had runners on second and third with one out.

Roskelley reached on an error by BYU pitcher Brooke Boyce-Humber. Zupan then followed with a single. But Humber then proceeded to retired Forsyth and Chris Jimenez to get out of the inning,

-??They got hits with runners in scoring position and we didn-??t,-?? Fairbourne said. -??It-??s that simple. I was happy with the effort today. -??

Utah Valley has a week off before they play at the Independent tournament next weekend in Greeley, Colorado.
