Wolverines Stumble in Day 1 of Independent Tournament

Greeley, CO- The Utah Valley State softball team dropped its first two games of the Independent tournament on Friday, losing 9-0 to North Dakota State in five innings and 6-0 to Northern Colorado. The two losses dropped Utah Valley-??s record to 13-32.

The Wolverines play South Dakota State Saturday at 9:00 a.m. They will then play at 2 or 4:30 that afternoon.

In the first game against North Dakota State the Wolverines had four hits to the Bison-??s 11. North Dakota scored two runs in the first and second innings, one in the third and fourth and three in the fifth. The Wolverines had a chance to make a dent in the North Dakota State lead when they loaded the bases in the fourth inning with two outs. But North Dakota State got out of the jam when Bison struck out Emily Zupan.

Against Northern Colorado, the score was tied at zero after three innings. But the fourth inning was when things unraveled for the Wolverines. After Utah Valley pitcher Heidi Boyer retired the first two batters, the Wolverine defense committed two costly errors that allowed the Bears to keep the inning alive and score their six runs. All six runs were unearned.
