Wolverines Sweep Samford

Sept. 1, 2006

ORLANDO, Florida - Utah Valley State took care of Samford in three games 30-25, 30-20, 30-18 in the second match of a doubleheader in the UCF Fall Classic on Friday.

With the win the Wolverines (3-3) have a chance to play for the tournament championship on Saturday.

Freshman Kristin Bromley tallied a team and career-high 11 kills in a match in which every Wolverine hit in positive numbers.

"We did a nice job accomplishing the goals we set for this match," said head coach Sam Atoa. "Our goal was to get back on track offensively and I felt like we did that."

The Wolverines hit .278 as a team and held the Paladins to a.142 hitting clip. UV also served aggressively with 10 service aces in the match.

"I really liked how we served tonight," said Atoa. "A good serving approach can put a lot of pressure on our opponents and we did that."

Jessica Endres added nine kills and Ashley Dallin tallied eight to make a UV balanced attack. Defensively, Chelsea Baugh and Camie Manwill had 15 and 11 digs, respectively.

"I'm glad to have the opportunity to play for the championship tomorrow," said Atoa. "We've put ourselves in good position."

The Wolverines will take on host team Central Florida Saturday for an 11:00 am (MST) match.
