Orem, Utah - Utah Valley State set a school record with a .430 hitting percentage on its way to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-16, 30-20) win over in-state foe Dixie State on Friday night, in the first NCAA meeting ever between the two schools.
Jessica Endres had 10 kills in 12 chances, an .833 hitting percentage, in just two games played. Camie Manwill led UV with 13 kills while Lacee Koelliker had 41 assists. Cidney Judkins led Dixie State with 11 kills.
"Jessica does that quite often...against any opponent," said Wolverine coach Sam Atoa. "She stepped up and helped the team. Hats off to her for her hard work on improving her game."
Former junior college conference rivals, the Wolverines and Rebels met up on the volleyball court for the first time since 2002.
Dixie is currently in its first season of NCAA Division-II competition.
After Dixie opened the match by scoring the first three points of game one, the Wolverines went on a 9-1 run to take a 9-4 lead spurred by three consecutive kills from Endres.
The Rebels got back within points as late as 17-14, but would get no closer.
With UV up 23-18, a solo block by senior Brooke Adams gave the home team the momentum it needed to close out game one, 30-23.
Endres had six kills in game one while Adams had four of her own. The Wolverines had a .552 attack percentage in game one on their way to the early lead.
Endres continued her hot play into the second game, helping her team to a quick 6-1 lead with two kills. Manwill then took over, recording six kills in the game as Utah Valley used runs of 10-4 and 10-3 for a 30-16 win in game two.
Dixie State took an early 9-7 lead in game three, but Utah Valley State used a 10-3 run to overtake the Rebels and win going away.
"Each of the girls came in and took advantage of the chance they got," said Atoa. "We played with a lot of enthusiasm."
Up next for Utah Valley State is a two-game trip to Texas to take on Texas-San Antonio and Texas-Pan American.
