BAKERSFIELD, California - Kayli Broadbent and Camie Manwill both tallied career-high numbers as Utah Valley won its second match in as many days over CSU Bakersfield. Broadbent had 26 kills and Manwill had 27 digs as UV outlasted the Roadrunners in five games (30-24, 28-30, 29-31, 30-24, 15-12) to move to 9-1 in its last 10 matches.
"It was huge for us to have our outsides have such good matches," said head coach Sam Atoa. "Kayli has been so consistent lately and it was great for Camie to kind of get back on track after some struggles with injuries."
Broadbent hit .407 with three service aces, one block solo and six blocks assists to total 33.0 points (6.6 ppg). Manwill had 16 kills while Jessica Endres had 12 kills and hit .357.
Both teams struck the ball fairly well with UV (14-6) hitting .292 compared to .256 by CSUB.
After the teams split the first two games, Bakersfield put itself on the verge of winning the match after winning its second straight game by two points.
Utah Valley hit .452 in the fourth to force the fifth game where the Wolverines opened a 9-5 lead to force a CSUB timeout. The 'Runners responded with a 5-1 run to tie the game up at 10.
Meagan Bluth and Broadbent had back-to-back kills and a Bakersfield error helped UV to a 13-10 advantage. CSUB got within two points at 13-11 and 14-12 before a Broadbent kill finished the match.
The Roadrunners were led by 26 kills by Sarah Norman and 36 digs from Mystie McNaughton.
Utah Valley will host Boise State next Thursday before traveling to Texas-Pan American on Saturday. Following next week, the Wolverines will play their final nine matches in the state of Utah culminating with the year-end D-I Independent Championship in Orem on November 16-17.
