OREM, Utah - Utah Valley faces some big-name schools this weekend when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Michigan/Nike Invitational. The Wolverines will face #10 Michigan and Georgia Tech on Friday and Temple on Saturday.
The #10 ranking for Michigan is the highest rated team that Utah Valley will face in four-plus seasons at the NCAA Division I level. The higest rated team previously was #12 Utah last season in Salt Lake City.
All three games will feature Gametracker and can be accessed at the Utah Valley website (wolverinegreen.com) while live audio for the Michigan match is available at mgoblue.com.
Last weekend at the UVU/LaQuinta Inn & Suites Invitational, the Wolverines went 2-1 with five-game wins over Weber State and San Jose State and a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to Arizona State.
UV has already played five, five-game matches this season and are 3-2 in those matches. Last season the team played just four five-gamers and won all four of those matches.
Libero Allyce Wilson finished the invitational with 92 digs and was named the tournament's defensive MVP. Jessica Endres and Kristin Anderson were named to the all-tournament team for Utah Valley.
Michigan is 9-0 and has won six matches by virtue of a sweep. The biggest win for the Wolverines came in the season opener at then #10 Hawaii in five games in front of 7,343 fans in Honolulu.
Georgia Tech heads into the weekend with a 4-3 record and has lost two straight matches, (0-3 vs. Arizona, 1-3 vs. Kentucky).
Temple is 3-8 and has lost five straight, most recently in four games at Maryland on September 8th.
After senior Jessica Endres became the first Wolverine to reach 1,000 career kills earlier this season, junior Camie Manwill is poised to be next on the list.
Manwill currently sits at 922 career kills, 78 away from the 1,000 plateau. If she averages her current season total of 4.50 kpg, she will reach 1,000 kills in just over 17 games.
The Wolverines will play at Idaho State next Saturday, September 22nd in their only match of the week.
